#ThrowbackSunday

This evening we start a series of posts looking back at some of the great memories and stories from our club history.

1950 - This was the year that was to see Johnstownbridge winning the club's first ever championship laying the foundations for a great future for this as yet very young club.

The final was held on the 5th of December 1950 against Athgarvan in Robertstown.

The line out on that memorable day was

Mick Haugh, Larry Flynn, Brendan Cully, Joe Doran, Billy Ryan, Paud Cully, Billy Cribbin, Jim Lynch, Tim Ryan, Mick Ryan, Tom Devine, Andy Ennis, Sean Cawneen, Jimmy Miggin and Jim Cully.

Subs: Joe Cully, Billy Perry, Mick O'Brien, Jack Duffy, Pat Hosey, P.
Martin, Tony Haugh, Paddy Downey.

The last surviving member of that team, Billy Ryan, resides in England and before Christmas we sent him over a Johnstownbridge jersey. Please see below a note from his son Bill.

Also below please find attached an extract from the match report as it appeared in The Leinster Leader.

A more detailed report will appear in our next post.
