Club History

Johnstownbridge GAA prides itself on being an inclusive, modern outward looking club, ensuring no members of the community are marginalised or excluded from using our facilities.

Our Clubs facilities are continually improving and have been noted by visitors as a credit to the parish and are oftentimes the heartbeat of the area.

The most recent and popular feature our 800 metre walking track around the grounds with Social Members signing up regularly. We also have a players gym upstairs which is proving to be a fantastic asset to our Clubhouse.

The recent spike in population has injected new energy into our Club with high numbers of players, coaches and in turn new committee members becoming more and more involved.

Johnstownbridge GAA Club was founded in 1942 and since then the Club has won numerous honours in all grades from Minor to Senior. Significant achievements include County Minor success in 1977, Intermediate Championship 1978, Senior Championship victories in 1983, 1988 and 1989. Our most recent success was 2013, winning the Intermediate Championship to bring Johnstownbridge back to the top flight of Kildare GAA where we firmly believe our Club belongs. In more recent years we have seen underage success with U-21 ‘B’ and ‘A’ Championships in 2008 and 2009 and our U14 team winning the Kildare Féile ‘B’ final and our Minors winning the Division 3 title both in April of this year.

Due to this success Johnstownbridge GAA has helped to put our small village on the map. With the rise in population coupled with enthusiasm, together we can and are currently building on our club’s future to continue with this growth both on and off the field of play! The Football Club has two adult teams fielding in Kildare GAA competitions with approximately 50 players over 17 years of age.
